Web Development Process Workflow

Before the creation of a website, usually, the first question is- “how does it work?” The process – leading from an idea to a fully functioning site, can be broken down into the following main steps:

1. Specification

A detailed description of the entire project. The customer should provide the description. The more detailed the written specification is, the smoother the course of the project will go. The axiom is important when programming – the later an error is detected, the more it costs to fix. Detailed specification allows you to anticipate potential problems and avoid mistakes in the later stages of the project, where the repair would cost significantly more.

2. Wireframe drawing

The design layout. As in the case of specifications – wireframe must be provided by the client, but in some cases, we can sketch the wireframe based on the ideas discussed during the meeting. It is a general view on how you see the webpage layout. Along with the specifications these are the main sources of information guiding the further course of the project. Drawing a wireframe is rather simple – even the “paint” program or a hand drawn wireframe allows to significantly reduce costs and time for design applications.

3. Design drawing

When designing illustrations we use the help of designer “Adobe XD”, “Sketch ” and other programs, and with coding and programming it will turn into fully functional websites. First 1-3 home page options are sketched for the desktop (adapted to a computer screen) – after selecting the most appealing, all desktop inner pages are sketched. After verifying that the design meets the expectations, designs are sketched for tablets ( adapted to tablets) and mobile phones (adapted to mobile phones).

4. Design coding

Design conversion to HTML / CSS / JavaScript script. This page is opened in a browser and looks like a working website, but it is not functional – it is not possible to edit the text, most of the links do not work. However, this is the final appearance of the page- in this step, you will see the site as it would look like in the end and after the programming is complete. The webpage is completely the same as the sketched version (step 3), except for the fact that the website will already have visible animations, various style changes when you move the mouse, etc.

5. Development

The coded design transforms into a fully functional, working website.

6. Testing

When testing, we double-check all functions work as described in the specification, make sure there are no security vulnerabilities and other bugs. The system is placed in a test environment so the customer can check whether the page works as expected, upload test information to see whether the real data in the system works as intended, and if design adjustments are needed.

7. Deployment

The placement of the system in our or our clients server. After this step the webpage is available to all internet users in a selected domain (eg .: meevly.com). We always recommend to place the website in our server, because only then can we ensure efficient speed and smooth updates, additions to the installation site.

8. Support

This is optional, but a highly recommended step. Putting the system in our server and ordering support services, we look after the website – updating the software version, making sure that the website would be accessed easily, we guarantee that the page will not be affected by any virus. Also by ordering our support services at no additional cost, we can make minimal adjustments to the website. Services are subject to a fixed monthly fee. Larger changes are discussed with each client individually, and then matched to an hourly rate.

In Addition

It is worth noting that the site development process is never completely trouble-free and smooth. More often than not we have to go back to previous steps, such as: a change of mind on certain design elements for a coded or even a programmed website; replacing a website certain operating logic. Such adjustments are inevitable, even with the most detailed specification.
